Posted Date: 11/10/25 (5:00 PM)

In recognition of Veterans Day, members of the Framingham Veterans Council and local veterans spent the morning of Monday, November 10 visiting schools across the Framingham Public Schools district to read with students and share their stories of service.

The initiative brought together a group of volunteers including police officers, firefighters, City Veterans Service Officers (VSOs), and a National Guard soldier. Participating schools included Framingham High School, Cameron Middle School, and the Potter Road, Barbieri, Hemenway, King, and McCarthy elementary schools.

Robert Downing, from the Framingham Veterans Council, shared his appreciation for the initiative. “This was a great opportunity for the Framingham Veterans Council and City Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) to partner and collaborate with the police, the fire department and the schools. The veterans were eager to read to the students and share their experiences. Thank you Framingham Public Schools, Framingham Police and the Framingham Fire Department.”

“I am deeply appreciative of the selfless actions by our veterans who continue to stand in front to preserve our nation’s freedoms and democracy,” said Dr. Robert A. Tremblay, Superintendent of Framingham Public Schools. “I appreciate Mr. Downing’s efforts to organize this important event for our school community so that our students can learn and appreciate those who live in service to our country while also recognizing those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms that we enjoy today. This is learning through community and it is an important and extraordinary connection that is being made.”

The program reflects Framingham’s ongoing commitment to honoring veterans while fostering connections between generations.

Framingham Public Schools extends heartfelt thanks to the Framingham Veterans Council and all the volunteers who made this special day possible.
