Framingham Public Schools Announces Tuition Free Summer Programs

Framingham, MA (April 9, 2020) - In recognition of the great struggles that many families have gone through this year due to COVID-19 and it’s related effects, Framingham Public Schools is excited to announce the removal of summer program tuition fees. This is made possible with funding from the American Rescue Plan which is an emergency legislative package that provides funding for K-12 public education to support efforts to reopen schools safely and equitably expand opportunity for students who need it most.

Fee-based programs at the elementary level that are now free include: Summer Scene Athletics, Art, STEAM, and Music, Framingham Youth Theatre, Club Exitos, Club Sucesso, and the High School Summer Institute. New this year, CRD is also proud to offer two new additional programs: The Summer Book Club and The Outdoor Meetup Club.

At the secondary level, The Office of Community Resource Development is running a number of robust academic and enrichment focused programs including: Summer Jr. Flyers, an academic recovery program blended with standards aligned enrichment; Middle School TV Production, a returning partnership with Access Framingham; and Summer Institute, a credit recovery and original credit program for High School students. Given the academic challenges experienced since March 2020, the District has increased the resources available to academic recovery programs that will take place this summer.

“We know that Out of School Time programs present a great and critical opportunity to get students the resources they need to succeed at school and beyond in the coming years,” said Tiffany Lillie, Director of Community Resource Development. “We are excited that through the support and partnership of the school district we are able to provide this benefit at no cost to families in this trying time."

A full listing of all summer programs will be released on April 30th along with program capacity limits and details on how families can register.
