Framingham Public Schools Department of Community Resource Development Launches 'Flyers by Night' Continuing Education Program
Community members are encouraged to sample classes for free beginning March 19th.
March 12, 2019 (Framingham, MA): The Department of Community Resource Development (CRD) at Framingham Public Schools is proud to present: Flyers by Night, a continuing education program. Supporting Dr. Robert Tremblay’s 2017-2020 Strategic Plan, CRD is working to increase educational opportunities for adults and residents of Framingham. Conveniently located at Framingham High School, 115 A Street, Flyers by Night will provide affordable evening classes in: Arts; Cooking; Fitness; Financial Literacy; Language; Recreation; and Wellness.
Community Resource Development conducted research on the contributing factors that prevent local adults from enrolling in education or enrichment classes. The top three reasons include cost, interfering with dinner, and childcare. Community members were surveyed to better understand needs, interests, and commitment levels. The program was designed based on the feedback to provide a high quality, accessible experience for adults. Flyers by Night will operate in three seasons: Fall, Winter and Spring. Classes will range from one time events to courses that meet up to eight weeks. Unique to the Flyers by Night program and in response to the overwhelming feedback regarding barriers identified by community members, adult programming includes child care with educational activities for school-aged children. As the program develops, the goal is to also provide a dinner option for children and class participants.
“Flyers by Night is a true opportunity for our schools to become community partners and engage with the whole family,” said Tiffany Lillie, Director of Framingham Public Schools Department of Community Resource Development. “Nightlife programming was an initiative prompted by our families that the district prioritized through the strategic plan. Since then we have had an immense amount of support from staff, families, and students. We envision that this program is a reflection of the community and will serve a fusion of family learning and fun.”
Flyers by Night classes will be staffed by Framingham Public Schools teachers, local artists, chefs and Community Partners. Avidia Bank, as an example, will be running free, one-time events that include classes in: Financial Literacy, First Time Homebuying, and Managing a Small Business. The Framingham Fire Department will be offering a one-time class called ‘First Aid and Stop the Bleed’. As the interest and demand grow in the community, the offerings will expand. Anyone who is interested in teaching a course can submit proposals to the Flyers by Night program.
Framingham residents and community members are encouraged and invited to attend a free class and try the Flyers by Night experience. Flyers by Night will launch by offering four weeks of FREE CLASSES. Starting March 19th, community members can sign up for: Yoga, Zumba, Cooking, Intro to Web Design, Zumba, Guitar, Keyboard / Piano, How to Navigate X2 for Parents, and much more!
