Next Chapter Cuts is a summer reading haircut initiative where students who commit to reading this summer may receive a free haircut. During their session they talk about their books with the Enoc Cruzado, a local barber and former FPS Explorers Staff Member.
Spearheaded by Amanda Lloyd, OST Coordinator at King Elementary School, this program was a vision of Tiffany Lillie, Director of the Community Resource Development Department, and Enoc Cruzado who is now licensed barber. This program is a win-win which encourages rising Kindergarteners through high school seniors to read and reflect on their books, while also offering them the incentive of a free haircut.
Through our Virtual Summer Reading lottery process and collaboration with community partners Hoops and Homework and Pelham Lifelong Learning Center, we will serve about 45 students this summer.
If families are interested in pursuing barber-style haircuts for their readers this summer, they can register for our lottery process. Appointments are not guaranteed. This program will run until mid-August. To register for the lottery families can use this form:

Haircuts are held outside at Farm Pond Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment.
