Fuller Middle School Building Project Community Forum
Overview
Fuller Middle School (1995 - present), previously known as Framingham South High School (1958 - 1991) has served our community well for 60 years. The school has reached a point that it no longer meets today’s building codes, has structural deficiencies, inefficient and inoperable systems and does not adequately support our educational curriculum.
The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), the state agency charged with overseeing and supporting school improvement projects, has visited the school and agrees. The MSBA is completing a Feasibility Study which is their initial step in partnering with the City of Framingham to investigate these conditions and develop a cost effective, sustainable and educationally appropriate solution to the aging Fuller Middle School.
A Framingham School Building Committee (SBC) was established in August 2016 and meets approximately every two weeks. The meetings are open to the public, posted and recorded. The meeting minutes and agendas for each meeting can be accessed HERE.
The SBC began with eight design options and have since selected the single preferred design and building option. This was submitted to the MSBA on May 9, 2018.
The rebuild of Fuller Middle School will offer more than a revamped educational space that services middle schoolers for many decades to come, but rather, acts as a hub for weekend athletics, drama, and more.
Next Steps
The Framingham School Building Committee (SBC) is hosting it’s 5th community forum on Monday, June 11th at 6:00 PM in the Fuller Middle School Library. There will also be an optional tour of the school at 5:30 PM.
Parents, taxpayers and educational stakeholders are invited to share their thoughts on the preferred design option (shown below) and overlying educational vision for the revitalization of Fuller Middle School prior to the selection of one preferred option by the School Building Committee.
The Folded Hands Plan (New Construction)
In short, the purpose of this forum is to create transparency with the community in understanding the design, the process, the role of the MSBA, and future steps in their process.
Translators will be in attendance of this open forum so that a larger allocation of the community can join in the discussion. Food and child-care will be provided at the school during this meeting.
Feel free to share the flyer(s) below to invite others to join you for Community Forum #5.

Don't have kids in Framingham Public Schools? Don't have any ties to Fuller Middle School?
- The proposed rebuild of the Fuller Middle School provides a community hub. With a new auditorium, athletic fields, and green space - these aspects will be available beyond school hours, all year long.
- The quality and appeal of a city's schools directly affect property values in the city.
- If approved, there will be tax implications. You have an opportunity to become a part of the process early to understand what that means.
- This school will be built and serve the community for the next 70-100 years. It's important to build it with the features that will be important now and well into the future.
- It's taken many years to get to this point with MSBA. As a City and Framingham Public Schools, we have an incredible opportunity to take advantage of significant state funding to complete the project. If the rebuild does not happen, the Fuller Middle School building will still be the City's top priority from a facilities maintenance standpoint which means that all other city school and building funds will be diverted to keep Fuller safe for occupancy.
