Welcome to Room 207!
Welcome to an awesome year! I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade this year. As the literacy coach for the past 6 years, I have gotten to know many students at Wilson during reading and writing workshop, but I am looking forward to creating a community in 207. Together we will collaborate and learn about many interesting topics.
This year we have 6 thoughtful IB units to inquire and form thoughts about. In science and social studies we will learn about forces, magnets, weather, animal adaptations, Native Americans, Pilgrims, Puritans, Framingham, and the American Revolution. We will strengthen previous math skills and learn how to multiply and divide. In writng, we will write about ourselves, topics we are interested in and topics we learn about, poetry, and responses to books. We will improve our knoweldge and use of phonics, grammar, and vocabulary and we will read fiction stories to learn about characters, nonfiction topics that interest us and that are connected to our science and social studies topics, biographies, and mysteries. In additon, we will also continue using iReady and Type to Learn to practice important skills.
I have high expectations for all students, but also different ways to approach these expectations based on students' current unique needs and abilities. Together we will create a community that is both positive and safe so that all students may experience success with the challenges that 3rd grade brings.
In order to support your child at home, offer encouragement and praise for their efforts as they learn and possibly make mistakes along the way. Your thoughts and comments are important; please don't hesitate to contact me so that we can work together to make sure your child has a successful year.
