Friday, January 27th is Holocaust Remembrance Day. In support of the Jewish community and honoring the history of the Holocaust, Framingham Public Schools hosted a virtual event which shared the personal story of the Holocaust survivor: Eva Schuster. Eva is the grandmother of fourth grade teacher Kim Tremlett. Eva was born in Berlin, Germany right before WWII began. She was a young, Jewish, girl growing up in Berlin during Hitler's rise to power and the Nazi occupation of Germany. In this storytelling experience, listeners will hear Eva's story of survival, capture, hiding, and escape into the Austrian Alps as told by her granddaughter, Kim Tremlett. In honor of Friday's Remembrance Day, we share these personal stories to honor the survivors and the six million Jewish lives lost during this time by telling their stories and honoring their memory. "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented" -Elie Wiesel.
