    Participant Information

    Framingham State University has been awarded a US Department of Education grant which will provide full scholarships for a limited number of teachers from the Framingham, Milford, and Waltham school districts to earn a M.Ed., Concentration in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL).

    Propell Grant

    Highlights of the Program include:

    • Earn a M.Ed. in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL)
    • Receive a full scholarship to Framingham State University, which includes full tuition, books, comprehensive exam fee, and graduation fee
    • Attend professional Development workshops
    • Be trained to become a leader and teach workshops to non-ESL teachers, administrators, and parents of ELLs.
    • Teach workshops and earn stipends up to $300 for each workshop taught
    • Participate in this 5-year program: 4 years to earn the M.Ed. in TESL , part time, and 1 additional year to teach final workshops

    Propell Meeting

    Year 1
    Participants take their first two Master’s courses, 1 per semester, (toward the M.Ed. in TESL).
    Participate in one professional development workshop, designed to improve the ability of teachers to engage parents, families, and the community. (1/2 day – 1 day).
    Year 2
    Participants take two more Master’s courses, 1 per semester, (toward the M.Ed. in TESL).
    Participate in one professional development workshop, designed to improve the ability of teachers to engage parents, families, and the community. (1/2 day – 1 day).
    Deliver 1 workshop.
    Year 3
    Participants take four more Master’s courses, 2 per semester, (toward the M.Ed. in TESL).
    Participate in one professional development workshop, designed to improve the ability of teachers to engage parents, families, and the community. (1/2 day – 1 day).
    Year 4
    Participants take the final 2 Master’s courses, 1 per semester, (toward the M.Ed. in TESL).
    Participate in one professional development workshop, designed to improve the ability of teachers to engage parents, families, and the community. (1/2 day – 1 day).
    Deliver 3 workshops.
    Participants take Master’s Comprehensive Exams and receive their degrees.
    Year 5
    Participate in one professional development workshop, designed to improve the ability of teachers to engage parents, families, and the community. (1/2 day – 1 day).
    Deliver up to 4 workshops

    Admission Requirements
    Applicants must:

    • Complete the online graduate admission application
    • Have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.80 on a 4.00 scale.
    • Provide two letters of recommendation submitted on the Framingham State University Letter of Recommendation form and sent directly to the University’s Graduate Admissions office by the recommender. One letter must be from an employer or supervisor, and the other from a professional who is familiar with the candidate’s pedagogical skills and character traits.
    • Submit a typed, 300-word personal statement discussing their motivation for seeking a master’s degree, and their desire to become a leader in teaching and advocating for ELLs.   in view of prior formal education, current job responsibilities, and career plans.
