Dr. Frank Rothwell, Principal

 Dr. Rothwell is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Master’s degree from The George Washington University and PhD from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.  Dr. Rothwell has over 25 years of experience in education.  In Framingham, he has held positions as a teacher, department chairperson, and vice principal at Framingham High School prior to becoming principal at Brophy Elementary School in 2010. Outside of his work at Brophy School, Dr. Rothwell enjoys hiking, skiing, reading, and working on DIY projects around his house. He resides in Framingham with his wife and two children.

Dr. Caitlin Long, Assistant Principal

Dr. Long has been at Brophy as the Assistant Principal since 2019 and, prior to coming to Framingham, worked with bilingual students in multiple capacities as a teacher, as a facilitator of professional development, and as a researcher collaborating with MA educators. Dr. Long earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Classics from Boston College, a Master of Education in Secondary Education in History from Boston College, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Leadership, Policy, and Educational Change at Boston College.  Outside of education, she loves to travel, read, cook, and take advantage of New England summers and winters.

Ms. Carolyn Pratt, School Nurse

Our school nurse, Carolyn Pratt, RN, NCSN, has been on our staff for 17 years. Carolyn graduated with her Bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Rhode Island in 1977. Carolyn worked for more than 30 years in the field of Oncology as a staff nurse at Beth Israel in Boston and Darthmouth Hitchcock Medical Center; Director of the Cancer Program at MetroWest Medical Center Natick and Framingham and as the Director of Radiation Oncolgy and Associated Services at the North Shore Cancer Center in Peabody. Carolyn joined the town of Framingham as a School Nurse in 2005, and remains today. Carolyn lives in Wayland and Bass River Cape Cod with her husband, where she hopes to retire when her home renovation is completed. Carolyn enjoys reading, knitting, exercising and skiing.

Charlene Abebe

Charlene Abebe (aka Mrs. A) is a new addition to the Brophy staff and is the Social-Emotional-Behavioral (SEB) coach.  She received both her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and her Master's of Social Work from Salem State University. Mrs. A worked in Early Childhood Education for 10 years before transitioning to school social work. She has worked as a high school social worker for over 10 years before becoming a coach. Outside of her work at Brophy School, Mrs. A enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, relaxing at the beach, traveling to other parts of the globe, trying new foods and exercising.

Mr. Samuel Blank, Social Worker

Mr. Blank has been happily involved in mental health and education for over 14 years.  He graduated from Boston University and received his Masters degree in Social Work from Boston College.  He has worked and volunteered with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing academic, social, and legal difficulties.  He is passionate about helping students to be their best selves both in and out of school.  In his free time, he loves to be outside and spend time with animals.

Ms. Christina Costa, PAWS Social Worker

Christina Costa (she/her/hers) is a new addition to the Brophy community as the PAWS Place Clinical Coordinator. She has her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Simmons University and her Master's degree in Social Work from Widener University. Prior to joining Brophy, Christina worked at an elementary school in Boston with students who have social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. She is passionate about working with this population and hopes to work with LGBTQ+ youth in the future. Outside of school, Christina likes to read, go to the beach, and see new places.

Mr. Anthony Ortiz, Wraparound Coordinator

Mr. Anthony comes to Framingham Public Schools from Worcester. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Spanish from Worcester State University, and a Master’s Degree in Community Development and Planning from Clark University. Mr. Anthony served as a youth worker for over ten years in areas that include: career readiness, college preparation, peer mentoring, and serving in committees that support boys and men of color in securing safe spaces for social/emotional healing dialogue. Outside of work, Mr. Anthony enjoys spending time with his daughter, playing and watching sports, dancing and listening to music.

Ms. Laurie Pare, Social Worker

Laurie Pare is excited to be a new member to the Brophy Elementary School team. She comes with over 12 years of experience as a Social Worker, primarily working with young children and their families.  Laurie graduated with her Bachelors in 2003 from Assumption College in Worcester, MA and with her Masters of Social Worker in 2008 from the University of Connecticut. Laurie's primary goal is to meet students where they are at while supporting and building on their individual social emotional skills. When not at work, Laurie is busy at home with her husband and their two young sons. In the summers, she looks forward to camping trips in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Ms. Jeny Rivera, Social Worker

Jeny Rivera grew up in Framingham. Her family is from El Salvador and she speaks Spanish fluently. Mrs. Rivera attended Brophy Elementary School herself! Mrs. Rivera received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Pine Manor College. Mrs. Rivera received her Master’s degree in social work from Simmons University. Mrs. Rivera has been in the field of social work for 10 years. Mrs. Rivera has experience with families in home counseling, parent and caregiver support and special education advocacy. Through her work, she is invested in addressing the opportunity gap that exists between white mainstream students and their Black and Latino counterparts. When Jeny is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young sons, as well as with her extended family.

Ms. Donna Skinnion, PAWS Place Teacher

Donna Skinnion is an alumna of Brophy School. She has taught in Framingham for 36 years, and at Brophy for 31 years.  Mrs. Skinnion has her masters in Early Childhood Education and Physical Education.  She has taught preschool for BLOCKS, Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and K-5 for PE.  She is now the Academic Coordinator for PAWS Place.  Mrs. Skinnion loves the beach, reading, gardening and walking!

Ms. Susan Schuler, Office Manager

Ms. Schuler is honored to be part of The Brophy School Community. She attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and received a degree in Fine Arts. She can be found writing, crafting, and sculpting in her spare time, and spends her summers living in a motorhome with her family and dog, Jim, in the Berkshires.
