Global Studies:

What is Global Studies?

The Global Studies program enriches the standard curriculum with age-appropriate activities that expand children's personal knowledge of the world. Highlights include:

  • STUDY OF WORLD CULTURES:  WHO?   A focus on people and their cultures that leads to an awareness of the diversity of ideas and practices found in human societies, and a search for commonalties and universal human traits.
  • STUDY OF GLOBAL ISSUES:  WHAT?   An awareness of persistent and emerging problems and issues such as environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and cross cultural conflicts and a concern for human rights.
  • STUDY OF GLOBAL SYSTEMS:  WHY?   An awareness of the interdependent nature of world economic, political, technological and ecological systems.
  • STUDY OF GLOBAL HISTORY:  WHEN?  The study of history with attention to the origin and development of cultures and values and the contact and borrowing among societies.
  • STUDY OF GEOGRAPHY:  WHERE?  The study of geography with attention to developing an awareness of the role it plays in shaping all the other areas of Global Studies.
