Extended School Year Programs
Framingham Public Schools provides a variety of extended year program options for children who are at substantial risk of regression.
B.L.O.C.K.S. PreschoolThe B.L.O.C.K.S. Preschool program provides an extended school year program for children with developmental delays and children diagnosed with ASD/PDD in order to prevent academic, behavioral and social regression.
Tutoring (Grades K – 8)
This extended school year program provides academic tutoring for elementary and middle school students who are at substantial risk of regression in literacy and math.
Middle School L.S. Tutoring (Grades 6 – 8)
This extended school year program is for students who are entering or enrolled in the middle school substantially separate program for students with Intellectual Impairments. The program provides both academic tutoring in literacy and math, along with functional and social skills support.
Elementary School Social Skills (Theater Arts) Program (Grades K – 5)
This extended school year program provides services to elementary students who carry the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders. The program is designed to prevent substantial social skills regression over the summer months. Students recommended for this program are enrolled in the two-teacher inclusion classroom, general education classroom, or have successfully transitioned from a self-contained program to the two-teacher inclusion classroom. All students have pragmatic language support during the regular school year. The curriculum is designed to maintain social and functional communication skills. Activities include building social skills through role-playing social situations, games, crafts, organized sports, puppeteers and theater arts. Speech/language services are embedded within the program.
Flyers Program (Grades 6 – 12)
This extended school year program provides services to middle school students who are diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and ASD in order to prevent social regression. The curriculum is made up of activities and games designed to build social skills and functional skills such as: crafts, role playing social situations, games, organized sports, field trips, and cooking activities. Speech/language services are embedded within the program.
Learning with Adventure Program (Grades K - 5)
This extended school year program provides services to students with ASD/PDD in order to prevent academic, behavioral and social regression. Students recommended for this program are enrolled in the sub-separate programs during the regular school year. Activities include swimming, bowling, field trips, arts and crafts, cooking, music, sports, and small group academic instruction. Speech.language services are embedded within the program.
McCarthy Program
This extended school year program is a summer recreational program for students with moderate special needs. Activities include swimming, bowling, field trips, arts and crafts, cooking, music, sports, and small group instruction, all of which relate to the students' IEPs and curriculum frameworks.
Camp Arrowhead (Natick, MA)
This extended school year program is a summer recreational program for disabled students who are 5 years old and up. The day includes instructional and recreational activities including swimming, creative dramatics, arts and crafts, life skills program and field trips, all of which relate to the students' IEPs and curriculum frameworks.
Related Services
Related services include but are not limited to speech/language services, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Extended school year services are provided for all students who are at substantial risk of regression.
