World Languages: French and Spanish

 

FRENCH

 

Basic Text: Discovering French: Blanc, Valette D.C. Heath, 1998

 

Brief Statement of Subject Matter:

The objectives of the grade 8 curriculum are for students to express their own thoughts, orally and in writing, in a real communication situation. Units on French-speaking cultures are also included.

 

General Objectives:

  • Students will be able to speak spontaneously and to express their own thoughts within limits of vocabulary and structure with which he/she is conversant, using correct pronunciation, grammar and inflection.
  • Student will be able to understand and participate in free discussion within limits of vocabulary and structure.
  • Students will be able to read aloud written material with correct pronunciation and intonation. They will be able to understand material based on known vocabulary and grammatical patterns.
  • Students will be able to express original ideas in writing, with correct spelling, within the limits of known vocabulary and of structure to which they have been exposed.
  • Students will demonstrate interest and awareness of a French-speaking culture by preparing a project related to the culture of a French-speaking country.
