Science

 

Basic Texts: Glencoe Science Interactions, Aldridge, et.al., 1995

 

Brief Statement of Subject Matter:

The grade six program involves students in the three strands of science – life science, physical science, and earth science. Exploration and inquiry is stressed. Laboratory skills and problem solving are also central to the programs. Science classes are heterogeneous, with modifications to fit individual abilities and learning styles.

 

Major Units:

  1. Measurement and Scientific Tools
  2. Environmental Interactions (Plants & Animals) covered in relation to each other and the environment as follows:
    • Classification
    • Microscopic Animals
    • Invertebrates
    • Vertebrates
  3. Elements and Compounds
  4. Vision and Light
  5. Plant Kingdom – Environmental Interactions
  6. Astronomy
 

The state frameworks revisions may necessitate some changes to the middle school curriculum.
