About Ms. Rivera
La Patóloga Del Habla y Lenguaje
I come to Framingham with fifteen years of teaching and clinical experience in the areas of Speech-Language Pathology, education, and bilingualism. I have worked in various settings including public schools; Early Intervention/Head start, private clinics, hospitals, nursing home facilities, and proprietor of a private practice. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Communication Disorders with a minor in Spanish from Worcester State College, Worcester MA. I hold a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley University with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction, Cambridge MA. I also have a second Masters Degree of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA. I hold state, educational, and national certifications in areas mentioned above.

What is a Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist?

Under the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) guidelines a Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist is a Speech-language pathologist who is able to speak the individual's primary language and to speak (or sign) at least one other language with native or near-native proficiency in lexicon (vocabulary), semantics (meaning), phonology (pronunciation), morphology/syntax (grammar), and pragmatics (uses) during clinical management. Professional practice requirements include a master's degree from an accredited institution, the Certificate of Clinical Competence, and the Speech-Language Pathologist State License. Practice in schools as a speech pathologist also requires a certificate from the Department of Education.

My role as a school based speech-language pathologist is to remediate, ameliorate, or alleviate student communication and swallowing problems within the educational environment.
