Technology - Rooms 306/307 Roland Kittredge |
Today, most teachers, as well as students, have exposure to the internet both at home and at school. In fact, every school in the Framingham School District have been retrofitted to place the internet in every classroom via the newest technology: Wireless or WIFI. Barbieri currently has 5 Wifi access points throughout the school with more coming before the end of the school year.
Also new and exciting is Barbieri's newly renovated Computer Lab in room 307. The old Macintosh computers have been replaced with new Intel(r) Core(tm)2 Quad processor Dell Optiplex computers running the newest Microsoft operating system, Windows 7, built around the newest PC technology. This versatile desktop features industry leading management and security in an energy efficient design. The architecture features Intel(r) vPro(tm) technology for advanced remote management, and the Dell OptiPlex is a secure, stable and easily serviced desktop solution that can simplify operations and increase cost efficiency in complex or growing IT environments.
The Computer Lab also has newly designed student work areas and a fresh coat of paint. These new workstations are being used on a daily basis by students to access instructional material to aid in their learning experience.
Each classroom has a Macintosh or a PC for use by the teacher and students on an as needed basis. Some classrooms have additional Macs in order to give those students additional hands-on time. Barbieri has over 100 PCs, laptops and Macs located throughout the building.
Barbieri Elementary, as well as other schools in the district, have now implemented the "follow me anywhere printing" program that allows teachers and staff to print to any printer in any school in the district. This program has proven to be a big cost savings initiative in the areas of eliminating the printers, toner and paper for individual printers.
